2020/21 FA Cup: AshantiGold obliterate Chelsea to reach final

AshantiGold SC annihilated Berekum Chelsea FC to book a place for the finals of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup on Sunday afternoon at the Cape Coast stadium.

The Miners secured a final spot with an emphatic 4-1 win over the Bibiries who played 25 minutes of the extra time with 10-men.

Despite the impressive start by Chelsea, they failed to pick winners as they suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of the four-time Ghana Premier League winners.

With few seconds to end the first half, Eric Esso scored a stupendous free-kick to hand the Miners the lead before the end of the first half.

After recess, coach Hoffmann Jomade introduced experienced striker Stephen Sarfo who announced his presence by pulling parity with his first touch on the field to make it 1-1.

The 90 minutes ended in a 1-1 stalemate with Chelsea been the better side.

Amos Kofi Nkrumah, restored the Miners’ lead with a spectacular strike two minutes into extra time to make it 2-1.

A few minutes later, Berekum Chelsea were reduced to ten men as forward Benjamin Abaidoo was shown the red card.

The 10-man Chelsea team pushed forward for the equalizer and that left spaces behind their back which was exploited Thomas Duah’s side.

Amos Addai went through on goal after a nice counter-attack by rounding the goalkeeper SammyAdjei to make it 3-1 to Ashantigold.

Seth Osei made it 4-1 at the end death of the second half of extra time with a close-range finish.

AshantiGold are through to the final and will meet the winner between Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC next week in Accra.
