Hearts of Oak pummeled Medeama 3-0 in the second semifinals of the 2020/21 FA Cup at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Phobians, after an impressive run in the Premier League which saw them clinched the title for the first time since 2009, were in high hopes to secure the double by making it to the final of the FA Cup.
Goals from Benjamin Afutu, Isaac Mensah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh crucified the Yellow and Mauves who were confident of beating their former coach prior to the duel.
After the opening exchange, Benjamin Efutu gave Samuel Boadu’s charges the lead in the 12th minute after meeting a cross from his teammate.
Medeama nearly grabbed the equaliser as they came close three minutes later after midfielder Eric Kwakwa combined with Amed Toure but the latter’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Richard Attah.
After the break, Hearts doubled their lead against the run of play through striker Isaac Mensah.
Medeama goalkeeper Frank Boateng missed a clearance he anticipated, leaving his post at the mercy of Mensah who calmly shot into the naked net.
Striker Afriyie Barnie made it 3-0 from the spot in the 72nd minute for the Phobians.
His initial effort was saved by Medeama goalkeeper Boateng but referee Yao Bless rewarded him a rewith take which he beautifully sent the goalkeeper wronthe g way.
Hearts will now battle AshantiGold who also thrashed Berekum Chelsea 4-1 in the final of the FA Cup on Sunday, August 8 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
The Phobians will be chasing their first double in two decades.
