A Potent Striker: Dawda Rakibu becomes the 3rd player to score Hattrick for Kings Palace Fc

In the annals of a Club birthed in 2002 in Akosombo, Dawda Rakibu has inked his name on the list of players who have scored a hat trick for Akosombo Kings Palace Fc.

The bulky 20-year-old striker who is having his first stint with the pride of Akwamu lads since moving from Northen City Fc, introduced his scoring for Kings Palace with a hat trick in their match day 2 encounter against Akatsi All Stars on Sunday, October 5, 2024.

Having played 75 minutes in the season opener against Olympics in Accra without finding the back of the net, Rakibu who played yet another 75 minutes in their first home game, cancelled Akatsi All Stars’ lead in the first half, with a tap in from a wonderful cross by Emmanuel Arthur on 32’.

Back from recess, the former Right to Dream fc forward, doubled his tally with a powerful strike in the 53’, getting the better of his marker to lead 2-1.  His 3rd goal and the team’s 4th came, when he latched onto a rebound from a shot by Courage Gbeve in the 75’, as Kings Palace won 4-1 on the day.

The first player to however score a hat trick for Kings palace is Desmond Awuah, (aka Pages).

Awuah who was part of the squad that qualified the team to division one, has 2 hat tricks for the club. He scored all 3 goals against Akosombo Fc in their 3-0 win on Sunday, July 30, 2017, to earn the club a berth in the eastern region middle league at the Akotex Park.

In that same year in November, Awuah scored another hat trick against Akrosa Fc, at the Old Tafo Park, a 3-1 victory, enroute their promotion to the division one league.

However, in the division one league, Paul Yanney who has been with the club since their first stint in Ghana’s 2md tier, was the 2nd player to score a hat trick for the Akosombo based club.

The teacher by profession scored 3 and gave an assist, as Kings Palace beat A5 Rences Fc 4-2 in the 2022/23 division one league match at the Akotex Park on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

Interestingly, all 3 players; Desmond Awuah #7, Paul Yanney #26 and Dawda Rakibu #25, are currently playing for the Club that currently lie 9th with 3 points on the Zone 3 table of the Access Bank sponsored Div One league.

While Paul Yanney was the only player out of the three (3) forwards, who could not find the back of the net in their 4-1 win against Akatsi All Stars, Desmond Awuah, scored his first since returning from Kotoku Royals.

Paul Yanney was substituted for Desmond Awuah on the 62’ and on the 63’, he found the back of the net, cushioning their lead 3-1.

Dawda’s hat trick won him a Player of the Match accolade.

As Kings Palace continue the rest of the 28 matches in the season, a lot is expected from this trio who have goal scoring history for the club. Are we going to see more hat tricks from them, or perhaps, other forwards will prove their worth to push the club to greater heights.
