It was MMG’s second outing in week 3 of the GCA T20 Qualifier B at the Achimota Cricket Oval which saw yet another defeat against Alpha Cricket Club on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
MMG won toss and elected to field first. Alpha put on the score board, 130/9 in what seem to be an intriguing game, as they lost 5 wickets in the last 5 overs, with Logan taking 4.0-1-14-3 in total and Manish Rathod also recording 4.0-0-23-2.
Frank Baaleri, a 3rd batter who spent 54 minutes scored 39(33).
MMG looked optimistic in the second innings and poised to outscore Alpha Cricket Club’s total but the first wicket (Vasant Shinde) that fell on the 0.4 over from the delivery of Halim K (4.0-0-31-1), caught at Mid-off by Akash Chaudhary kept them sober and steady.
Eventual Player of the match, Isaac Otuafo Aboagye (4.0-0-18-3) brought more sanity and kept MMG’s dream of achieving 131 dashed, as they managed 103/9, while Alpha won by 27 runs. Bharani Kumar Majji (4,0-0-26-2), and Akash Chaudhary (4.0-0-11-2) and all contributed restricting MMG to that victory.
Before that, Salt n’ Pepper cruised to their second victory while Kofi Bagabena grabbed his second Player of the Match accolade, with 4.0-0-15-5. Bagabena now lead the most wickets chat with 8 wickets from 2 matches, an economy rate of 4.75 and an average of 4.75
Champions United elected to field first after toss and Salt n’ Pepper scored 152/6 while Bagabena top the score with 47(32).
Champions United in the second innings had a tough one, scoring 69/10 in 17.3 overs. Salt n’ Pepper however won by 83 runs. While Champions tried to finish the 20 overs steadily, they kept losing wickets along.
Lee Nyarko took the rest of the 9 wickets, with 4.0-0-13-4.
Salt n’ Pepper leapfrog Devnik to sit at the summit of the table with 4 points, while Alpha occupy the 4th spot with 2 points, same as 3rd place Hurricanes.
On Sunday, December 22, Swami Indians will face GTCC to seek for their first 2 points. Hurricanes will also host Devnik later in the day.
