Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency, in the Eastern Region, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko has supported sixteen (16) Senior High School Freshers, with an amount of GH₵500.00 each.

The short event that took place at his residence in Akosombo on Sunday, April 10, 2022 was the second support he has offered JHS graduates going to SHS, after he provided Trunks, Mattresses, and Provisions to 70 Students on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

These benevolence by the MP, are to ease the burden on parents, whose wards are to purchase a whole lot on a prospective list upon admission to their various second cycle institutions.

Hon. Ampem, who provided the support with joy says, the earlier donation triggered this one.

“A friend of mine called me after seeing the donation of trunks and others, and was enthused about it, so he sent immediately, GH₵6000.00. Initially, it was 10 students, so I decided to top up a little. Your parents and all of us contributing to get you to school, it is because we want you to have a better future.”

The sociable and caring MP also used the opportunity to encourage the young ones to go and make him proud.

“Those of you with bad grades, tell yourselves that you’re going to make impacts. You shouldn’t continue with the bad grades, if not, you will be wasting everyone’s time and we shouldn’t be doing this. So as soon as you get to the campuses, make up your minds that you are going to study to make good grades and begin from day 1; get to the university and make all of us proud. I have told your parents; we’re not only doing and that is all but I will take your results at the end of first year.”

Hon. Ernest Norgbey, MP for Ashaiman constituency

Member of Parliament Ashaiman, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, who was present, shared few words with all.

“It takes a selfless person to call out a group and say, I am giving out money for you to go to school. Our work is humanitarian. If you are not selfless and do not think about only your family, you cannot do it. The money his friend sent to him, any other MP can decide to put it inside his pocket and say, ‘I have done enough already’. It is not easy for Parents to raise money for this free SHS, buying kit list. When you come to Ashaiman, the same thing I do for people. So, it is always good that you have an MP who is thinking about the people.”

“Our common fund, that he’s supposed to use for all these, is still in arrears. And so, he has to use his pocket money. So, you have to make him proud by doing well in school, so that he will invest again into the coming ones.” He added.

In appreciating the gesture, Madam Mabel Sesi Banahene, who spoke on behalf of all the Parents, was full of joy.

“We are so happy for your support. We didn’t expect it at all. May God richly bless you and also bless your friend. May God grant you strength and flourish your good works, so you can continue. Our wards are all happy and we promise to monitor them, so that they will perform well.”
