The Asuogyaman Boys U-19 T20 community league entered week 2 on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Akwamuman SHS Park, were defending champions, Tortibo Twinkle Star Cricket Club
Senchi Royal Batters started the day winning the toss and were taken all out for 37 runs in 10.5 overs by Abuakwa Super Kings.
Harry Otibo was at it again, as he took 3 wickets, gave away 6 runs in 3 overs, with a maiden wicket over. Sylvester Teye also took 3 wickets, gave away 14 runs in 3 overs. Moses Akyereke took 2 wickets, gave away 3 runs in 1 over, while Bright Ametepe and Prince Addae took 1 wicket each.
Abuakwa Super Kings won the game by 9 wickets after scoring 38 runs for 1 wicket in 4 overs. Richard had a LBW after making a run, but Sylvester Teye (8 runs, off 3 balls) and Prosper Bambile (13 runs, off 8 balls) protected their wickets till the target was achieved.
In the second game, defending champions Tortibo Twinkle Stars scored 96 runs, all out in 19.4 overs in the first innings after winning toss against Mangoase Hydro.
Rudolf Akunor was caught from Prosper Tetteh’s ball but the rest of the batting order, although inconsistent and no better partnership, managed the final score with some boundaries. Wisdom Teye came tops, scoring 21 runs, off 19 balls but Mangoase’s Prosper Tetteh took 3 wickets, gave away 14 runs, in 4 overs.
In as much as Mangoase tried to beat Tortibo for the first time, they lost the game by 26 runs, after they managed 70 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Henry Gidi’s last but 1 boundary four for Mangoase Hydro was what they needed in the power play but Tortibo’s exceptional bowling skills could not allow them.
The likes of Godwin Atsu, Jerry Adams and Robert Akumah lasted longer in the crease but could not produce the needed results for their team, as Rudolf Akunor took 3 wickets, gave away 7 runs in 4 overs, with 2 maiden wicket overs.
Abuakwa Super Kings lie top of the table with 4 points, followed by Tortibo Twinkle Stars with 2 points. Senchi Royal Batters and Senchi Fire Batters continue with 2 and 0 points while Pupuni and Mangoase finish at the bottom 2, also with no point.
The league continues on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the Akwamuman SHS Park. Meanwhile, the Eastern Region Cricket Association is still calling on corporate bodies to support the course, while the Ghana Cricket Association funds the league.
