CRICKET: Alpha maintains unbeaten run with an emphatic win against GT CC in Qualifier B

One can link their triumph to that of Alpha Hour warrior sharing testimonies. Alpha Cricket Club went on cloud 9, as they saw off, what may seem to be a tough contest in the Ghana Cricket Association T20 qualifier at the Achimota Oval A.

It was a morning week 7 encounter, which had GT take the first innings upon themselves after winning toss. It was a tall order for GT, whose bad day, had only Raj Roshan scoring a double digit, 31(40).

Roshan opened with James Kwaku Vifah and were writing a script for themselves, scoring 23 runs together with extras at the end of power play.

Akash Chaudhary had a long 6th over, giving away too many extras and to the discomfort of his team mates, as it was his first over. Behold, the first wicket that set the tone for many to follow came on his last delivery and James Vifah was caught out beautifully behind by Frank Baaleri.

GT Cricket Club stayed on, until the 9.5 over, when Bharani Kumar got another wicket for Alpha; another wonderful caught out by Michael Aboagye on Rama Madhu.

From Madhu, to Anna, to Samson Awiah, Merbin, Venkatesh, Francis, Lennin, Anandan, and Anil, all could not stand the bowling Prowers of Alpha Cricket Club, with none scoring 10 runs.

Gt Cricket however were all out for 94 runs in 19.4 overs.

From the deliveries of Isaac Aboagye, Bharani Kumar and Judah S. came these wonderful bowling fugures; 4.0-1-12-3, 4.0-0-21-3 and 1.4-0-3-2.

Although the game was won in the second innings, the highlights was in the wonderful restriction from Alpha.

Frank Baaleri begun with captain Simon Ateak for the chase. Franke fell to Sam Michael Merbin’s delivery on the 0.4 over, but Simon was run out on the 2.2 over. It looked like GT Cricket Club was getting Alpha, a taste of their own wine, but Bharani Kumar rose to the occasion.

Coming on as the 4th batter, Kumar scored his first boundary 4 to deep extra cover from the first ball faced, a delivery from Merbin.

He had a great partnership with Michael Aboagye 35*(25), who also came on after Halim K fell on the 4.1 over, when Alpha was 22/2.

Alpha scored 96/3 in 14.2 and won the match by 7 wickets, while Bharani Kumar added a great batting performance; 44*(45) to his bowling figures to be adjudged the Player of the match for the second time.

Kumar moved 2nd on the Batting chat with 118 runs from 3 matches and behind James Kwaku Vifah of GT CC.  

Alpha, also moved up to the 2nd place on the Qualifier B table with 6 points, an NRR less than Salt n Pepper, who sit on top. GT dropped to 4th with 4 points after 4 outings.

So far, Qualifier B has two unbeaten Clubs, Salt n Pepper and Alpha CC, with the league plunging into more exciting fixtures, come Sunday, January 26, 2025.

It will be a tough one, for who makes it to the Premier league after these qualifiers from the group.
