It was a rather bad day for the senior national cricket team, as they lost for the second time against Rwanda, at the ongoing Dafabet sponsored West Africa Trophy at Lagos on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
Ghana scored in the first innings and were restricted by Rwanda, especially in the power play, which kept them at 8 runs for 1 wicket in 5 overs and 35 runs for 3 wickets in 10 overs.
Ghana could not keep the wickets from the middle order too and at 14.2 overs, the first innings ended with the lads having scored 54 runs for 10 wickets.
Rwanda came to the party and didn’t waste enough overs to achieve 58 runs for 1 wicket in 6.2 overs, to win the game by 9 wickets.
Ghana will now miss out on the final against host Nigeria, as even a win against Sierra Leone on Saturday, 2pm will not give them enough NRR to surpass Rwanda. They will however battle for a third place against Sierra Leone on Sunday, October 15, at 10am at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval.
Host Nigeria later beat Sierra Leone by 53runs and lead the table with 16 points, while Sierra Leone, who managed a win against Rwanda lie bottom with 2 points.
Ghana’s loss to Rwanda today, became their 5th in the 4-nation triple robin tournament out of 8 matches played and the 3rd straight defeat since losing to Nigeria for the second time on Tuesday October 10.
