BGC needed to do light work on Saltpond based Ras Binghi Cricket Club to win their 2nd match in week 5 of the ongoing GCA Division 1 League, Qualifier A on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
The opening match on Oval A saw a spirited Ras Binghi side opt to bat first after winning toss. Led by Nurudeen Ibrahim 28(41), and with 23 extras, Ras Binghi scored a total of 83/9.
BGC’s Hassan Ali Shah stood tall in the game as he tormented Ras Binghi and achieved 4.0-0-10-5. His exploits started with a clean bowled on Daniel Quainoo on the 0.5 over, then another on Benjamin Amoah Sampson on the 2.1 over.
Just as Ras Binghi tried to push for at least 20 runs in the power play, Bright Addison fell with the bails flying and a stump dangling on the 4.3 over, yet via another delivery from Hassan Shah.
He wrapped up his fantastic performance with a golden duck on Emmanuel Sackey via LBW for a brace (4.4 over) and his final on Richard Owusu on the 10.1 over, while Binghi had 42/7.
Hassan is now top of the bowling chat with 8 wickets from 3 innings, leapfrogging Defender’s Daniel Anefi, with 7 wickets, also from 3 innings.
Ras Binghi did not give up the fight in the second innings but ensured they got little restrictions and dismissed 2; Joseph Kwame Theodore 10(5), on the 0.5 over and Rohit Malik 16(18) on the 7.4 over from the deliveries of Prince Davies and Nurudeen Ibrahim. BGC scored 85/2 in 9.1 overs to win by 8 wickets.
Captain Devender Singh Malik 40*(29) stood still and ensured his side picked the all-important victory.
Ras Binghi remains bottom with no point, while BGC toppled Defenders to 2nd spot with 4 points. Defenders, now 3rd and also with 4 points and an NRR less. Rana Motors still sit top with 6 points.
The league goes on a one week break and will be back with grueling fixtures on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
