CRICKET: Champions United clinch first victory; Alpha CC move top of Qualifier B in GCA T20

It was a wonderful time to celebrate their first victory in the ongoing T20 league.

Champions United on Oval A in the afternoon of Sunday, January 26, 2025, cruised to a 60 runs victory against Hurricanes.

A slow a careful first innings saw Champions United score a remarkable 161/7 with eventual player of the match, Syed Anees Hashmi scoring 1 run short off half a century.

Syed took over from Sandeep Kumar on the 2.4 over when Champions were 26/1 and immediately scored a boundary 4.

His partnership with Deepak Kumar 41(35) produced 49 runs before Deepak was bowled out on the 10.4 over by Viprendra Partap.

Syed continues with Dishu Kumar 25(20) and had another wonderful partnership. Two more partners for Syed before he exited via a stumped on the 18.4 over, from the delivery of Chandrahash Yadav (4.0-0-21-3).

Hurricanes, having secured their only win, against Swami Indians, had a mountain to climb but did well in keeping their wickets..

They endured the restrictions and without rush to hit the 162 target but enjoyed their time in the crease. They scored 101/9.

Hurricane sit 7th with 2 points while Champions United are 6th with same points and an NRR better.

Earlier on Oval B, Alpha Cricket Club did not forget to add salt and pepper to their sumptuous meal they prepared for Salt n Pepper.

Alpha maintained their winning momentum and kept their sheets clean with a 6 wickets victory over Salt n Pepper.

Alpha took Salt n Pepper all out for 111 runs in 18.2 overs, while Bharani Kumar won his 3rd Player of the match accolade in succession.

Junaid Ahmed however did well in the batting performance for Salt n Pepper, scoring 35(19) but it wasn’t enough for his side to put up a higher score.

Junaid’s great score as an opening batter was halted on the 5.2 over by Bharani Kumar’s delivery, a Caught out by David Ankrah.

It was not a tall batting order for Alpha in the second innings.

Frank Baaleri was heating up, but his reign was cut short by Bernard Addo on the 6.1 over.

With 24 extras, David Nii Ashong Ankrah 15*(12) and Bharani Kumar 25*(22) finished things up for Alpha with 113/4.

Alpha is now top of Qualifier B with 8 points from 4 matches and + 1.7 NRR, pushing Salt n Pepper to 2nd with 6 points and +2.1 NRR.

On Sunday, February 2, Alpha Cricket Club welcomes Champions United, while Salt n Pepper play Hurricanes.
