It keeps getting interesting, as Carel Super Kings Cricket Club went unbeaten in 3 matches after beating Salt n’ Pepper by 48 runs in Group B in week 9 of the New Year Invitational T20 league.
Equaling Don Bruce record of 3 wins out of 3 matches on Sunday, November 20, 2022, Carel Super Kings kept Salt n’ Pepper winless out of 3 matches played after they won toss and opted to bat first.
Joseph Kwame Theodore began with captain Selvaraj slowly and sacrificed themselves as at the 4.3 over, with 27/3. Michael Aboagye 27(29) gave CSK a lot of hope in achieving their target, with a good partnership with Sam Michael Merbin 37(29).
Renju Varghese (4-0-19-2) and Shajahan Razak (4-0-12-2), did well in the bowling figures, but it wasn’t enough to restrict the determined Carel Super Kings who wrapped up the first innings with 149/6.
After a long time away from Cricket, expert Ghanaian bowler, Joseph Aboagye gave Salt n’ Pepper, a tough time on the crease as he took his first wicket on the 1.2 over, his second ball, after a dot ball, dismissing Shijo Devasia at deep extra cover, caught by Joseph Theodore.
He got his second wicket on the 1.4 over, bowling out Alim Khan actually recording a maiden wicket over. He wrapped up a wonderful game with another maiden wicket over in the 6th over, with another deep extra cover caught by Theodore, dismissing Sajeev Sundaresan Nair on the 5.3 over.
Mukesh Mohan 46(43), pushed for glory with some boundary shots but it wasn’t enough for Salt n’ Pepper, who finished the innings 101/7.
Joseph Aboagye (3.0-2-3-3) was adjudged Player of the Match, with an economy rate of 1.00.
Captain of CSK, Selvaraj Chockalingam tells TalksenseSports, their eyes are on the ultimate.
“Our team at the end of the game have proved to be strong, hopefully, we will be at the top of the table; that is out goal. Since our last two matches, we won toss and chose to bat, and we maintained same formula because we have confidence in batting and bowling also. If you are chasing, normally there is pressure in there, because we have a goal and if you go for the batting, you don’t have that limit, so we can play freely and set the target for our opponents; the reason we chose to bat.”
“We want to lift the trophy and we are half of the way in this tournament. So hopefully, if everything goes fine, we win the remaining 3 matches, remain top and go for the knock out.”
CSK with their win, leapfrogged Don Bruce to top the table with 6 points, having a numerical NRR advantage of 2.767 to 1.544 of Don Bruce.
Salt n’ Pepper have dropped to bottom from 6th position.
It is looking interesting in group B, as Don Bruce bounces back to play Swami Sports Club on Sunday, November 27, 2022 in the morning.
