Defenders Cricket Club and Carel Super Kings (CSK) saw victories in the ongoing Ghana Cricket Association’s New Year Invitational league at the Achimota Oval C on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
Defenders, playing their 2nd game, climbed top of Group A with 4 points after securing 6 wickets win over Ras Bingi in the morning match.
Opting to field first after winning toss, Defenders gave Ras Bingi a good restriction in the first innings, limiting the latter to 78/10 in 17.1 overs.
Captain Sanob Vengali Ravindran, Godfred Bakiweyem, Albin Abraham, and Abhin Ashok V K got 2 wickets each with the following figures (2-0-9-2), (3.1-1-8-2), (3-0-6-2), and (3-0-21-2) respectively.
In the second innings, Defenders got the job done sacrificing 4 wickets in 12.3 overs, with 83 runs.
Godfred Bakiweyem completed a good game on the day, and was adjudged Player of the match as he scored 19/33. Bakiweyem was Caught by Haruna Addison, from Emmanuel Eduafo delivery on the 9.4 over, while Defenders score stood at 64/2. His team mate Chandrabos Sharon, also scored 17/23 and was caught by Benjamin Amoah Sampson on the 8.5 over.
Defenders have been consistent so far in their bid to clinch their first title after their protest win against Supreme CC on August 28, 2022
Later in Group B, Ghana’s U-19 Cricket team suffered a 46 runs defeat from Carel Super Kings, in an entertaining fixture.
The U-19 team, who had their first test in the T20 league after their inability to make it to the U-19 Cricket World cup in Abuja last month won toss and opted to field first.
CSK, who begun with Joseph Kwame Theodore (31/33) and Selvaraj Chockalingam (2/3) scored 146/6 and limited the U-19 lads to 103/10 in 17.5 overs.
Chockalingam, had an early rest in the first innings that lasted 1 hour 49 minutes, after he was Caught on the 0.5 over but the likes of Arumugam Venkatesh (13/25), Michael Aboagye (24/15) and Sam Michael Merbin (33/29) stabilized the game for CSK.
Captain of the U-19 Team, Paul Ayoleyine was a delight to watch, scoring 35/27 with 4 boundary 4’s and was bowled on the 9.3 over by Joseph Aboagye. He also took 2 wickets in an over, giving away only 3 runs (1.0-0-3-2)
However, CSK’s Michael Aboagye, with (2-0-14-2, adding to his batting performance was adjudged Player of the match. Hariharan Sivagnanam of CSK, achieved 4.0-0-19-3 in the bowling figures, keeping the team at 2nd position with 4 points, 2 behind leaders Don Bruce.
Matches scheduled for Sunday, November 6, include a Group A tie between BGC versus MMG in the morning and a Group B clash between Punjab IPMC and Swami SC.
