The Senior national men’s cricket team have secured their first win in Group A of the ongoing ACA T20 Africa Cup final at the Willowmoore Park, Benoni against Mozambique on Friday, September 16, 2022.

After winning toss and electing to bat first, Ghana scored 154 runs for 7 wickets, with Rexford Bakum (71-30) raising the bar in his batting career and setting the pace for the team ahead of the rest of their matches.

It was a slow start for Ghana, who had 29/1 in 5 overs and 68/2 in 10 overs. The final 10 overs however saw a rise in performance, which arguably gave Mozambique a mountain to climb.

Ghana had to restrict Mozambique, who later improved their performance in the second innings, but could only manage 126 runs for 4 wickets. It was a great beginning for the lads, restricting their opponents, with a score of 52/1 in 10 overs. Captain Obed Harvey had half of the total wickets Ghana took, with 4-0-28-2 and an economy rate of 7.00.

Ghana won by 28 runs, while Rexford Bakum was adjudged Player of the match.

Captain of the team, Obed Harvey in his post-match reactions to Super sports says, they wanted everyone to have a feel of the pitch.

“It actually played out, that is what we actually wanted to do. We wanted to give everyone equal opportunity, especially our batters, so that everyone will have a feel of the pitch, because this is just our first game and we look at it as a stepping stone. We wanted everyone to have a feel and fortunately it worked out and it is something awesome. Well, we needed one person to put the hand up and say, guys come on, I am here for the show, I need to also, not just be a part but lead from the field and yeah, I am happy he did.” He concluded on the performance of Rexford Bakum.

Ghana will turn their attention to Botswanan on Sunday at 7:30am (9:30am local time).

First two team from the group phases makes it to the semifinals on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
