CRICKET: Ghana loses again at ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier

The chances of qualifying to the next stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for Ghana’s senior national team has become slimmer as they lost their third match this afternoon at the Gahanga Oval.

Ghana, having shockingly lost by 7 wickets to Mozambique on Friday morning after a win in their first game against Eswatini lost by 4 wickets against Tanzania.

Ghana scored in the first innings, after Tanzania Won toss and opted to field.

It was a struggle from the beginning of the innings, as Tanzania got their first wicket on the 1.2 (James Vifah).

With great limitation, Tanzania got 4 more wickets (Alexander Osei, Samson Awiah, Rexford Bakum, & Obed Harvey), with Ghana’s score at 45/5 in 10 overs.

Daniel Anefie 46(26) and Richmond Baaleri *21(29) gave Ghana some hopes with their partnership producing 68 runs and pushing the scores ahead, until Anefie got sacrificed on the 18.4 over, a run out many wished had not happened.

Ghana’s innings ended at 121/7.

It was a huge task for Ghana but not impossible in Cricket as the lads tried to restrict Tanzania.

The greens however kept focus and were already 29/0 in 3 overs, 57/0 in 4 overs and 63/0 in 5 overs.

Tanzania scored 122/6 in 14.3 overs and WON by 4 wickets.

A performance, that cannot be written off is that of Youngster Richmond Baaleri, who took 4.0-1-12-4.

With an economy rate of 3.0 and a maiden wicket over, Richmond produced 18 dot balls, from his 24 deliveries.

Captain, Obed Harvey who bounced back to play in today’s game was precise in a post match Interview.

“it didn’t go our way as wished. Another bad day in the office and we can only prepare for what is ahead” He told TalksensSports.

With 4 more matches to play, Ghana is billed to continue the tournament tomorrow, December 5, 2022 with a tie against Sierra Leone at the IPRC Oval at 1:45pm (11:45am GH Time)
