Ghana’s Senior national men’s cricket team wrapped up their triple round robin at the 4-nation West Africa Trophy tournament with a 5 runs victory against Sierra Leone on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Ghana had the first innings, since Sierre lone won toss and scored 112/9. Rexford 30(27) and captain Samson Awiah opened and gave Ghana a good start. The fall of wickets began by the 3rd over and intensified in the last 5 over, as the patriots pushed to break Ghana’s partnerships.
Sierra Leone came into the second innings stronger, surpassing Ghana’s 27/1 score with 30/0 in the power play. However, great restriction from Ghana got the patriots trailing by 8 runs after 10 overs, as they stood at 47/3, while Ghana had 55/2.
It was becoming possible for Sierra Leone, as they reduce the gap per over to 5, stand at 72/4 in 15 overs, while Ghana were at 77/4.
Sierra Leone managed 107/6 and lost their third straight game to Ghana, since they lost the first game by 3 wickets on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Rexford Bakum was adjudged the Player of the Match and he received $50 plus an accolade. He topped the score chat today, as he had tried to get his game going since the tournament began.
The tournament sponsored by Dafabet will go down on Sunday, October 15, when Ghana meets Sierra Leone for the fourth time and in the 3rd place game at 10am before host Nigeria also lock horns with Rwanda in the finals at 2pm.
Ghana, in their West Africa Trophy campaign lost all 3 matches to host Nigeria and lost twice to Rwanda but won all three matches against Sierra Leone and once against Rwanda in a Super Over.
