Ghana’s senior women’s cricket team suffered another defeat to Sierra Leone at the ongoing Nigeria Cricket Federation’s Women’s T20 International on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
Ghana won toss for the second time and this time elected to bat first.
Rashidatu Salia suffered early dismissal on the 3rd ball when she was bowled out by Janet Kowa.
Komalpreet Grewal, *19(34) held on with the rest after mounting the crease on the 5.5 over, till Emmanuella Nyaaba was dismissed on the 19.3 over as Ghana scored 67/10.
With good restriction from the beginning of the second innings which gave some hope to Ghana, several missed catches caused Ghana as Sierra Leone cruised to their back-to-back victory against Ghana, scoring 68/3 in 12.2 and winning by 7 wickets.
Sierra Leone youngster Alice Fillie, with 4.0-1-9-3 bowling figures and was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Captain Rhyda Ofori Amanfo was optimistic, their first win will come against Cameroon in a post-match interview.
“We are growing and we will get there. All is not lost. We are coming like lioness tomorrow against Cameroon”
Apart from Ghana’s 4 wickets win against Sierra Leone in Ghana in 2018, Ghana has suffered 2 straight defeats from Sierra Leone at this tournament, with an 87 runs victory against Ghana on March 28, 2022.
Ghana’s next game is against debutants Cameroon on Wednesday, March 29, at 13:50 GMT (12:50 GH Time) and then face rivals Nigeria on Friday, March 31, 2023, after rest day on Thursday.
Ghana currently lie 4th, still with no point and -4.290, while Nigeria occupies first spot, with 4 points, after beating Cameroon earlier on Day 2.
