It was a thrilling moment for Karizma Cricket Club who saw their 3rd trophy in 2 years in St John’s Plastic Republic Day Tennis Cricket Tournament held at the Dzorwulu Astro Turf, having beaten Pak Zalmi in the finals on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
They came through to the final in the two-week tourney, after vital wins from the group C, that had Royal Stars Tema and Fab Panthers and going on to beat Kepas in the round of 16.
The five over soft ball tournament, with 7 players in each Team has only 1 player eligible to bowl 2 overs. A ball is however bowled from just 1 side and a boundary four or six is scored from a direct shot over the nets around the Astro turf or against the wall.
Karizma, who had won the previous year Republic Day Cup and Labour Cup had a tough quarter final against Imperial, which was named ‘the final before the final’ and then saw off Evolve Paints in the semifinal by 28 runs after 39/5 and 11/6 in 4 overs results.
The modified Cricket saw Evolve Paints also beat Salt n Pepper in the quarter final, winning by 7 runs, after a 30/2 and 23/6 in 4.3 overs outcome.
It was another long winning streak for Pak Zalmi, who saw off Gilma by 4 wickets in the second semifinal, having to score 21/2 in 2 overs, surpassing Gilma’s 20/4.
In the final however, Karizma won toss and scored 39/5 after electing to bat first. Suraj scored 16(13) and led his team to restrict Pak Zalmi to 10/6 in 4 overs, while Rohit Sukhija won player of the match, having taken 2 wickets.
With several sponsors on board, Man of all matches played received prizes, as well as Player of the tournament plus Umpires and Scorers.
Karizma, having won then previous Republic Day Cup in similar fashion promised to keep winning in the passion of the nation, Cricket.
Indians love for the game of Cricket cannot be under estimated, as they even have several clubs in the Ghana Cricket Association’s New Year Invitational T20 League, being played at the Achimota Cricket Oval.
