For the first time in the Ghana Cricket Association New Year Invitational, MMG Cricket Club has toppled their group, after a good win against Ras Bhingi at the Achimota Oval C on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

The week 10 match which was the 5th match for MMG saw them clinch 5 points, having shared a point with Karizma earlier.

Ras Bhingi however, who are yet to win a match in their three outings, still sit bottom with no point.

The Saltpond lads elected to field first after winning toss in the afternoon match, allowing MMG to score a remarkable 174/8.

Captain of MMG, Vasant Shinde who was adjudged Player of the Match had a good day in the crease, scoring 82(55).

It was a good restriction from Ras Bhingi from the beginning of the first innings. Haruna Addison’s delivery in the first over, kept MMG at 2/0, before Amoah got the first wicket (Anil Nawalekar) on the 1.1 over, a run out by Nurudeen Ibrahim.

It was a great joy for Ras Bhingi, who had hopes of getting their first win. The joy was however cut short when former national captain, Peter Ananya found the boundary (4) from his first ball faced, coming to replace Anil.

That opened the boundaries for MMG and Vasant Shinde, who started with Anil found his rhythm for boundary shots.

Vasant’s game ended on the 13.2 over when he was caught by Bright Addison. He got a total of 13 4’s and 1 6’s and a strike rate of 149.09 in 69 minutes.

Ras Bhingi pushed from the beginning to catch up with their target but could only manage 106/8, losing the game by 68 Runs.

Nurudeen Ibrahim and Daniel Quainoo opened the batting but it was Benjamin Amoah 27(31) and Reuben Charles Pobee Okine 24(28) who had a good day.

Captain of Ras Bhingi, Nurudeen Ibrahim says, with better facilities, they can get victories the league.

“We don’t have enough equipment and at the same time, we don’t have the pitch, but we always train and hope everything will go in our favor, so we win matches. It will be good for us to get the equipment and everything and train very well. I tell my team mates to train hard, so that every one of them could get the chance also for any of the national teams. My personal target is also to be a national Team player, because I have played U-19 before; but for the Team, we want to get all players used to hard ball and build upon their performance.”

Vasant told TalksensSports, they hope to win their remaining match to get to the semis.

“It wasn’t too easy but we made it easy because we score 174 and pushed more for it to be easy for us. We would’ve field first but they won toss and chose to field. But our batting is very good that is why we were able to score that much. We have the target to go to semis but hoping to get another win for a better position in out group.”

MMG would have a last Group game against Defenders on week 15, while Ras Bhingi has 3 more.

BGC plays Supreme Cricket Club in week 11 on Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Group A, but organizers are changing the fixture due national assignment with most players in Supreme.
