Boso Terrific Hitters Cricket Club started the year 2024 with a mixed gender T10 game at the BosoTech park on Monday, January 1, 2024.

The T10 U-19 game was aimed at showcasing the talents of the players in the community to their parents and guardians who have always allowed them to travel outside town to play.

For the first time, a competitive game was played on the bad state Boso park, between Supper Batters and Power Batters.

Power Batters threw themselves in for the first innings after winning toss and scored 89 runs for 4 wickets. National asset Priscilla Yirenkyi Oppongbea took 3 wickets for her side, Supper Batters and recorded figures 2-0-12-3. Priscilla got Emmanuel Obiri Yeboah out for a golden duck and in succession sacked Comfort Osei for a clean bowled.

Powe Batters’ Deborah Takyi 14(13) and captain Emmanuel Appiah *16(8) boosted the scores with a great partnership before Deborah was sacrificed on the 8.5 over.

Super Batters resumed the second innings with the hopes of surpassing Power Batters’ score but the latter had their own plans. Richard Worlanyo scored the second boundary 6 of the day after Emmanuel Appiah in the first innings, but his reign was cut short by Deborah Takyi’s last delivery in her first over.

Super Batters managed 82 runs for 5 wickets as Deborah (2-0-10-2) took her second wicket, again, on the last ball to wrap up the game, while Power Batters won by 7 runs.

Emmanuel Appiah was adjudged player of the game as he took 2-0-15-2 in addition to his batting performance.

Chairman of the one-day T10 game, Mark Yeboah, who is Fantiakwa District PE Coordinator was elated about the commitment of the players and urged them to be consistent to reach the top.

Othe dignitaries who graced the game apart from the parents and guardians of the players include Hon Edmund Attah Yeboah (Assemblyman, Kyekyee Electoral Area), Hon Isaac Afunyah (Assemblyman, Oduaso Electoral Area) and Kwabena Aburam (Opinion Leader of Boso). Supporting as well from the Zone 2 of the Eastern Cricket Association was Coach Larry Arko of Asikuma Kings & Queens Cricket Club.

Having some of the fine cricket players in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region Cricket Association and in Ghana, Boso Terrific Hitters have on several occasions won the Zone 2 leagues of both U-19 Boys and U-19 Girls.

Currently, they have the likes of Priscilla Oppongbea, who made the 16-girls squad for the national female team last year before missing out on the final selection to the 2023 Women Tournament in Nigeria.

Deborah Takyi explored at the Obuasi Cricket Oval in October last year, playing for the ‘Crushers’ in the PinkDay T20 Bash.

Organiser and Coach of Boso Terrific Hitters, who doubles as the coordinator for the Asuogyaman Zone 2, Patrick Osafo called on the support of all to enhance Cricket in Boso.

“We started Boso Terrific Hitters four years ago and we needed to showcase our successes top the indigenes. We decided to play to show to our community and parents, as they have never seen them play. We hope to build the team to win more laurels in the future. There was no support for this initiative but we had some equipment from the national female coach, Obed Harvey for us to use and we are grateful for that. We will do this every year and we are calling on everybody to come support us”

The Boso New Year T10 mixed gender game became the first Cricket Activity for the year 2024 and will go a long way to inspire others to make cricket heard in Ghana, as the Ghana Cricket Association prepares for the African Games in March.
