Captain of the Senior men’s national cricket team, Samson Kwasi Awe Awiah has said that they could have done better in their second victory against Sierra Leone at the ongoing West Africa Trophy tournament in Lagos.
Ghana had an improved game against the patriots, an 8 wickets victory in their second encounter on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval after betaking Sierra Leone by 3 wickets in their opening game on Wednesday.
Both Sierra Leone and Ghana had an improved game today, with Ghana wining toss and chasing 110/7 and scoring 111/2 in 16.5 overs as compared to chasing 95/9 and scoring 96/7 in 17.2 overs.
Ghana had some really good partnerships today, with Rexford Bakum 26(25) and Godfred Bakiweyem *41(40), producing 44 runs, whereas Godfred Bakiweyem and Kelvin Awala *23(24) produced 53 Runs.
Speaking in a post-match interview after Ghana clinched their 4th victory out of 4 matches, Samson they will perform better than they did today.
“Yes, it was a convincing victory. I am massively impressed with team’s performance, though I think we could do better. I am impressed so far since we got the win. We will learn our lessons and then the next time, we will do better than what we did today.”
In Ghana’s victory today, Vice-Captain Obed Harvey was decorated with his second Man of the Match Accolade, after recording a great bowling figures 4-0-18-3 and an economy rate of 4.50. He was presented with a plaque and $50 for his outstanding performance.
Ghana is playing a total of 11 matches, including the semis and either 3rd place or final, as they engage in the 4-nation T20 triple round robin preliminary stages. They have so far only lost to host Nigeria and will face Rwanda on Sunday, at 2pm.
Meanwhile, host Nigeria made it 5 wins out of 5 matches after defeating Rwanda by 6 wickets earlier today.
Ghana will seek a double victory over Rwanda too, after they won by 3 runs in a Super Over game played on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
