Part 1: The Introduction!

Text: 2 Cor 8:9
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake, he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich (ESV).

This verse above clearly reveals God’s intentions of riches for His beloved children.

He really wants us to be rich. Yes, He really wants us to have unimaginable riches! 1 Chronicle 29:12a has this to say; “Both riches and honour come from you, and you rule overall.” But what kind of riches does God desire for us? God’s riches are everlasting. They are riches that are not only needed in this life, but in the next world. As the name everlasting suggests, these riches do not end on earth.

They follow us to the next world even after death. They are not physical or material in nature. A person may die and leave his material wealth and riches behind, but the everlasting riches will follow him. In the next world after death, some people are going to be eternally poor. However, others are going to be eternally rich. Whether being poor or rich after death depends on how one lives his or her life on earth while alive.

God’s Word is not against material wealth or riches.

He is the one Who gives us wealth. “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth” (Deut 8:18). What the Bible warns against is riches that one obtains through foul and fraudulent means and also having riches without having the fear of God.

“God answered Solomon, ‘Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honour, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king. Wisdom and knowledge are granted to you.

I will also give you riches, possessions, and honour'” (2 Chrn 1:11-12). Solomon asked for an everlasting riches, wisdom and knowledge, and God gave it to him alongside what he didn’t even ask. This Everlasting Riches series, don’t miss it!
