Part 6: Love For God!
Text: Jude 1:21
Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life (ESV).
Love for God is one of the riches that will remain perpetually. All those who love God are rich in Spirit. This riches will not end on earth. As long as God is everlasting, anyone who loves Him will be with Him in perpetuity. Let me intimate that, all other love on earth will come to an end. No matter how one claims to love you, that love will end.
Even if that love lasts, death will separate the two of you at last. It is only God’s love that Loving God is not only shown through praying, going to the house of worship, praising Him with a song, or giving a portion of your income to the church. To love God, it will take more than those religious acts. And if we read the Holy Scriptures, we will realize that to love Him truly, we have to love Him not only with all our heart, soul, and mind but also with all our strength.
In fact, to love God is to put Him first. The number-one commandment is to love God “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). It is an undivided love. God is our priority. If we love God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, then we won’t allow other things to crowd in. If we love God, we will definitely not love the things of the world.
The Psalmist showed his love for God when he said: “The earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25). We cannot love this present world and God at the same time (1 John 2:15); love for what the world offers can lead us astray (2 Tim 4:10). To love God is to desire Him and to yearn for Him all the time. This is what the Psalmist said: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God” (Psalm 42:1). God’s love is everlasting. So love Him and love Him dearly!
Prayer:
Father in heaven, pour Your love into my heart. Please Lord, teach me to love You intimately with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. In Jesus Name I pray, amen.
