Part 7: Love For Others
Text: 1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God (ESV).
Love For Others is one of the everlasting riches that must not be regarded by God’s children. He who loves others is making a divine investment for eternity. Love is a very important subject in the Bible. the love of God towards us, love in marriage, love for our fellow human beings, etc. Love is so important to God to the extent that, His Word teaches us to love even our enemies. This is serious! Yes it is! Our enemies deserve our love, so says the Bible.
This is how love is supposed to be for God’s children. You can imagine the blessings for those who are able to love their enemies. Note that, to love is totally different from to like. To like or not to like has to do with preferences but to love is a command. The love the Bible commands Christians to have is agape which is “primarily a love of the will rather than the emotions.”
The kind of love God requires from us is God-kind of love. You may not like a person, but the Bible commands you to love them. In the language of God, you don’t have to like people before you love them. You are entreated to love them. Why? 1 John 3:10 provides us with the vivid answer to this question.
It says that, “By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” Our love for others is a demonstration of we being God’s children. If God is Love, then it stands to reason that, His children love others. The Bible says that, “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us” (1 John 4:11-12). Love for others counts in eternity. So love!
Prayer:
Gracious Lord, pour Your love into my heart and mind. Show me the right way to love others the way You have loved me. In Jesus Name I pray, amen.
