Part 5: Goodness of The Soul!
Text: Eccl 6:3
If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he (KJV)
Yesterday, we saw that a stillborn child is better off than the person who does not receive a befitting burial. The other part of this verse which I want us to consider today also says that, a stillborn baby is better off than the person who does not fill his soul with goodness. Hence Goodness of the Soul is an everlasting riches. If we are able to fill our souls with good things that please the Lord Jesus Christ, our eternity with Him in His glorious Kingdom will be secured.
Let us look at what the following verses say about doing good: “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God” (3 John 11). “That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate” (1Tim 6:18). “Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free” (Eph 6:8).
Our souls are everlasting. Our souls have been made to live forever. When our bodies die, our souls will continue to live. Hence, the greatest harm we can do to ourselves is to die with our souls not filled with goodness. The state in which a person dies and exits this world is extremely important. If you exit this world into eternity and you have nothing good in the records of heaven, that is when you will realize the greatest mistake you have made.
Believers in the Lord, we should not lose sight of the fact that, we have been empowered to do what is good at all times. This is the essence of our redemption. That we will do what is good and pleasing to God is the more reason why we have been delivered from the traps of Satan and his sinful schemes. Live for Christ! Fill your soul with goodness because that is your everlasting riches.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me with divine enablement to fill my soul with goodness as I prepare myself for eternity. In Jesus Mighty Name I pray, amen.
