Five over 5: Alpha Cricket Club remains unstoppable in GCA Division One league after win against Champions United

Alpha Cricket Club have gone 5 wins out of 5 matches and their latest victim was Champions United Cricket Club in week 9 of the ongoing GCA Division One league.

Played in the early hours of Sunday, February 2, 2025, Champions United opted to bat after winning toss and were given a tough time by Alpha Cricket Club.

The wickets started falling, when Girish Varadarajan delivered his 6th ball from the University of Legon side, to Sandeep Kumar. It was wonderfully caught by David Nii Ashong Ankrah at deep backward point, to wrap up the 2nd over.

David Ankrah continued from the Achimota Zoo side to dismiss return opening batter Deepak Kumar, with a clean bowled on the 2.1 over to usher in Dishu Kumar.

Halim K. got one for himself on the 4.2 over while his brilliant delivery got Syed Anees Hashmi caught out exceptionally by Michael Aboagye, with Champions at 12 runs for 2 wickets.

Although the wickets did not fall every over, David Ankrah got the batters scared in the crease, with some dodging as he delivered with speed like he was putting on Tyretrendz and got his limitations.

Girish won Player of the match accolade, as he took 2 more wickets and gave away 20 runs, while rain interrupted play at 17 overs, with Champions United standing at 78/6.

However, 3-time player of the match winner, Bharani Kumar added to his wicket tally and is now top of the bowling chat with 12 wickets from 5 innings. He is also top of the MVP with 38.39, about 10 points away from 2nd place Kofi Bagabena.

Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS)method was used and overs were reduced to 5. Alpha Cricket won the game by 9 wickets, after they scored 39 runs for 1 wicket.

Bharani Kumar 14(12) was caught at Long off by Deepak Raykangor, from the delivery of Mohammed Firoj on the 4.3 over, to end his partnership with Frank Baaleri 22*(15). Bharani is also top of the batting chat with 157 runs, an average of 78.50 and a strike rate of 113.77 from 5 innings.

Alpha Cricket Club remain top of the Qualifier B with 10 points and +1.554 NRR.

Alpha started their consistency with a win against MMG with 27 runs on December 15, 2024. They went on to beat Swami Indians by 55 runs on January 12 and GT CC by 7 wickets on January 19, 2025. Their 4th victory was a notable 6 wickets against Salt n Pepper on January 26.

Alpha will bounce back to the Achimota twin oval to play Hurricanes on February 16, 2025 before their final match against Devnik United on March 2.

With Golden Dragon Casino-Osu, Tyretrendz, Binatone, and Indomie supporting, Alpha Cricket Club will not only aim at making the top four to qualify to the Premier League, but also recording an emphatic unbeaten run and remain top of Qualifier B.
