The Ghana Olympic Committee on Saturday, June 21, 2025 marked the Olympic Day with the demonstration of 21 sporting activities at the Accra Sports Stadium after a morning float through the principal streets of Accra by athletes and officials.
The event which was to promote the Olympic values; Excellence, Respect and Friendship, saw several athletes and officials numbering over 1000 also practice some aerobics session at the Tennis court after the float.
This year’s slogan, ‘Let’s Move’ shines light on the benefits of playing sport and working out together, celebrating all the inspiration and enjoyment; a collaboration between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
‘Let’s Move’ is to continue beyond the Olympic Day, with the ambition and the support of the Olympic Movement to keep inspiring and enabling people to move and enjoy physical activity through resources, activations and content.
Allowing greater participation, the Saturday event saw several students from selected schools see the various sports being showcased and were encouraged to participate. The day ended with an exciting quiz competition on Ghana’s participation at the Olympic Games.
The various sports that exhibited at the Accra Sports Stadium include Arm-wrestling, Badminton, Baseball, Boxing, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Cycling, Fencing, Handball, Judo, Karate, Kick Boxing, Rugby, Scabble, Shooting, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting.
The Olympic Day is also aimed at providing more opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to be more active and enjoy the benefits of participating in regular sports and physical activity, contributing to the WHO’s Global Action on Physical Activity and the IOC’s Olympism363 strategy, to reduce physical inactivity by 15 percent in adults and adolescents by 2030.
