The Guinness World Record (GWR) has disqualified Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon attempt.

In a tweet responding to a comment enquiring about her attempt, the GWR said “unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”

The GWR also noted that the evidence check already begun before Afua requested priority service hence her earlier payment has been refunded.

“We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” the GWR noted in a tweet on February 23.

Earlier this month, Afua Asantewaa disclosed that she paid $750 to expedite her priority review process with Guinness World Records.

Speaking in an interview, Afua Asantewaa said the usual review process with the Guinness World Records takes up to twelve weeks but with payment one can have it within five days.

She stated that after two weeks of attempting the record, she decided to expedite her review process which necessitated her to pay the said amount.

“I have an account with them [GWR] so right after the record attempt, they requested for our files because we were putting everything together. They reached out to us and requested for our videos. I think after two weeks waiting, we decided to go in for priority review.

“The normal review takes not less or more than twelve weeks but if you want it quick you pay an amount of money and they review your file within five working days and that is what we paid for.

“Officially, it is $650 but if you are going to pay into an account, you have to pay some transaction fees. So totally we paid around $750,” she told JoyNews.

Afua Asantewaa completed her singing marathon at 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023 aiming to break the current record by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012.

Afua further submitted evidence of her singing attempt to Guinness World Records on January 6, 2024

Last month, the Guinness World Records (GWR) responded to Afua Asantewaa’s attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

GWR’s response came up after a TikTok user, cute_gyebuaxx tagged the Guinness World Records in a post inquiring about Afua’s singing marathon.

In response, the World Records replied, “We’ve been reviewing Afua’s evidence and will be letting her know the results soon.”
