Ho Asogli Tennis Tournament: HTC rallied to a host and win in a keen finals against Tarkwa

It was host and win for the Ho Tennis Club (HTC) in the 2022 Asogli Tennis Tournament played at the Ho Tennis Court on Saturday, September 3, as Precious Nununa and Linda Sedinam Henodzi triumph over Lisel and Eunice of Tarkwa in the Ladies doubles, became a vital win for HTC.

Ho Tennis Club lifted the coveted trophy in the 4- Club tournament organized over the weekend to form part of the Asogli Yam Festival celebration by the people of Ho.

Army Officers Mess Tennis Club (AMTEC), Tarkwa Goldfields Tennis Club, as well as Accra Lawn Tennis Club joined the Ho Tennis Club to compete in best of 7 games from the semis, including Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Men’s Singles and Women Singles, amidst merry making and networking.

Ho Tennis Club played best of 7 games with Accra Lawn in the straight semifinals, where the former won by 4-3. The likes of Osman, Paul Agbeve, Wise Aheto, Precious Nunana plunged the host into the finals after their sterling performances in the various categories.

Tarkwa Goldfields Tennis club had more walk overs in their quest to make the finals against AMTEC. The Ladies Doubles, Ladies Singles, and Mixed Doubles were all walk overs for Tarkwa. Popularly known as Babolat, Ismail Lamptey, was one of the players who paired with Sammy Shaibu to beat Jude and Eric of AMTEC 7-2 in the Men’s Doubles.

In the 3rd place games, AMTEC went pass Accra Lawn 4-0, where Col Elikem defeated Nana Boakye 7-2 in the Men Singles, after which Dr AB paired with Col Elikem to beat Paul and Chris 7-4 in the Mens’ Doubles.

The best of 7 games was now reduced to best of 5 and the finals took another shape into the night. Paul Agbeve of HTC took the lead and defeated Yoofi of Tarkwa by 7-3 in the men singles but magical Tracy Ampah defeated Precious Nunana in the finals of the ladies’ singles   7-6 (8-6) on tiebreaks. Tarkwa took the lead for the first time when Eric and Yoofi beat Joseph Nassel and OC by 7-4 in the first Men’s doubles.

Paul Agbeve and Wise Ahetor restored parity for Ho in a nerve-racking game to beat Jude and Ampah 7-5.  It was 2 all and Precious Nunana and Linda Sedinam Henodzi sealed the 3-2 victory for the Ho Tennis club with a 7-1 win over Lisel and Eunice.

The one-day tournament which saw arrival on Friday night treated all the tennis loving people with some Borborbor tunes on Friday night and Sunday night as well.

Mayanar Fabrications Ltd (Roofing sheet manufacturing company), Sonrise Senior High School, Volta Serene Hotel, Skyplus Hotel, Paradise Water, Salaria Eyemed and Bel Aqua heavily sponsored the one-day tournament to a success.   

Gracing the opening ceremony was the Volta Regional Sport Director Mr. Daniel Sarpei. The Ho Tennis Club keeps growing as they have enhanced the court over the past years and unearthing talents in and around Ho.
