Asante Kotoko are yet to officially commence processes to renew the contract of Black Stars defender although he has only two months left in his current contract, according to the player’s agent Yussif Alhassan Chibsah.

The 25-year-old centre-back was a regular and instrumental for the Porcupine Warriors last season. His stellar performance won him Black Stars call-up.

Surprisingly, with only two months left on his contract, Kotoko are yet to made any official approach to extend his stay despite his impressive form.

Snippets of information suggested few weeks ago that Ganiyu packed his belongings and left Kumasi as he was not ready to play for Kotoko next season. This was after it was reported that German club VFL Bochum made an official offer for his services.

But Chibssh denied reports, noting the player went home for the break and has returned to Kumasi ahead of the start of the club’s pre-season activities.

“Kotoko management or board of directors haven’t contacted me or the player officially for negotiations to have a contract extension. I don’t know why but we hope things will be sorted,” Chibsah told Pure FM.

“We don’t have any problem with anyone at the club so there hasn’t been any negotiations because there was or is a standing issue. Kotoko have given Ganiyu a huge platform to showcase his talent and he appreciates that a lot.

“Therefore, Kotoko is always the priority before any other club so we are still in the waiting period for what offer Kotoko have for him before we can move to the next stage,” he added.
