Krystal Palace loses to Lions in additional time

It was another sad moment for the Pride of Akwamu Lads, who lost their third home match this season, 2-1 against Heart of Lions on Sunday, April 17, 2022.

The Match Day 22 match saw Krystal Palace take the lead in the 18’ via Aboah Kofi Donkor with assist from Yaya Musah, as they settle into the game.

In the 28’, captain David Asare tumbles with the ball but Lions couldn’t punish Krystal, as a shot at goal went wide. 10 minutes later, Kennedy Tu-Leo came close to scoring, but his touch after a counter attack break rolled to touch.

4 minutes into the second half, David Anderson and Samuel Nanaba were introduced to keep the momentum, replacing, Courage Gbeve and Kennedy Tu-Leo. Earlier, Selorm Loy was unmarked but his shot was too feeble, after receiving a pass from Aboah, who won the ball in front of the away defence.

On the hour mark, Richard Ali and Ebenezer Agbakey were brought on for injured Emmanuel Arthur and Yaya Musah. 7 minutes later, Lions equalized through a long throw in.

Both sides now push in the final 20 minutes for the glory as Krystal attack were more promising but either gets dispossessed in the final third or misses.

Frank Adjei Danso was introduced with 3 minutes to play on regular time and he immediately got a chance but goalkeeper was up to the task with a great save. With 5 additional minutes, Kwabena Nyenduro, whose partner with Jacob Kwasi has been phenomenal went in for a timely clearance, as Lions were on the break.

Lions, then taking 2 consecutive corner kicks, after 1 was cleared found the back of the net with a header from Samuel Agbenyegah to seal victory for the kpando lads.

As disappointing as it was for both fans and players, captain of the side, David Asare says, it was bad luck on their side.

“I don’t really know what to say. We played well and created our chances. I can only say it was bad luck on our side. We shouldn’t have lost this game, but we will keep pushing. All hope is not lost. 8 more matches and so we can do something”

He played his heart out, he dispossessed a lot of attacks and was outstanding on the day, even though his team lost. Midfielder, Mohamed Kabiru won his second Player of the Match Accolade.

Being his first season in division 1, he was grateful for the opportunity to play and exhibit his talent.  

It was a chance to move up the relegation zone even with a draw but the lost kept Krystal Palace 14th with 22 points, after 22 matches.
