Match Report: Kordzi, Salim strike late to propel Hearts Of Oak to victory over CI Kamsar

Hearts of Oak have sailed through to the next stage of the Caf Champions League after an impressive second-half display that saw them beat Guinean outfit CI Kamsar in the one-off game on Sunday afternoon.

Kamsar’s defensive approach worked in the first half as the Hearts of Oak could create a few opportunities despite dominating possession at their favourite Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts of Oak recorded a 2-0 win over Kamsar, thanks to goals from returnee Kofi Kordzi and youngster Salim Adam in the last ten minutes of the duel.

Boadu parraded a strong starting line-up and that was evident in the first half despite the few struggles due to the compact game exhibited by the visitors.

Goalkeeper Richard Attah was selected over Ben Mensah and Richmond Ayi while captain Abdul Fatawu Mohammed, Raddy Ovouka, Robert Addo Sowah and Mohammed Alhassan made up the back four.

Boadu deployed two defensive midfielders in the shape of Caleb Amankwah and Frederick Ansah Botchway while Emmanuel Nettey, and Salifu Ibrahim played the offensive role.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Isaac Mensah led the attack.

But two late goals from substitutes Kofi Kodzi and Salim Adams changed the story after a tough start for the Phobians.

After a pulsating opening ten minutes, Hearts dominated play and dictated the pace of the game. They managed a few incursions into the opponent’s half.

Hearts appealed for a penalty by the 28th minute but referee Patrick Tanguy J. Philippe Vlei from Cote D’Ivoire waved play on.

The Phobians scored two goals in each half of the game but they were ruled out by the referee.

Hearts finally took the lead by the 83rd minute through a Kofi Kodzi’s fantastic free-kick. The striker calmly bent his effort above the human wall and beyond the Kamsar goalkeeper’s stretch.

Deep in additional time, Samuel Boadu made two changes with Salim Adams coming on Caleb Amankwah while William Dankyi also replaced Salifu.

Youngester Adams scored the goal for Hearts to cushion and send them to the next stage of the competYoungsterearts will now face Wydad Athletic Club from Morocco in the next round of the competition.
