The Junior staff of the Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) couldn’t believe their eyes and were still in awe, as the coveted trophy was presented to the Seniors on Monday, May 2, 2022, to mark the workers Day celebration.
Among other indoor and outdoor games competed for at the Akotex Park, the seniors managed a 1-0 win over the juniors in a tough football match to gain higher points to enable them lift the trophy for the second time this year.
The football game had a scoreless first half as the juniors squandered several chances. The seniors, with quick fatigue and many changes managed the keep the juniors’ threat till recess.
With fresh limbs in the second half, a long pass from the right back found the foot of Emmanuel Annan whose shot got into the roof of the net, in the 50th minute.
From there, the juniors kept pushing for an equalizer and possibly the winner, but their efforts could only get into the safest hands of the goalkeeper. The Seniors didn’t only sit back but also created their own chances, as Obed Tawiah tried a long shot over the goalkeeper but was grabbed in the 75th minute.
Annan, who is Boiler manager and captain of the Seniors team left up front for defense to ensure they seal another slim victory over the juniors.
However, the juniors exhibited a lot of character, especially in the cards playing and triumphed over the seniors.
Union Chairman, Godwin Akoto who presented the trophy to the Senior Staff, says 2023 will be bigger and better.
“It has been an exciting day. I am very happy everyone comported themselves although it was very competitive. I also want to congratulate the Senior Staff for enduring and beating the Junior Staff. We must all prepare for 2023, because it will be better.”
On March 5, 2022 the Managers won by same goal margin over the Supervisors to lift the trophy, marking the Ghana’s 65th Independence.
The younger generation have however vowed not to lose again to the older generation, saying, that two wins for them is enough.
