Head Coach of Premier league returnees Heart of Lions Fc, Bashir Hayford has said that they are focused on lifting themselves out of the relegation zone of the Premier league.

The experienced gaffer made these remarks after losing 0-2 to defending champions Dreams Fc in the MTN FA Cup Round 32 encounter played at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Heart of Lions posted a 1-0 win over Dreams on Thursday, January 4, 2024 in an outstanding match day 13 fixture at the Hohoe Stadium.

Speaking in a post-match reaction after losing the Fa cup match, Bashir Hayford says, the spirit for the league differs from that for Fa Cup.

“We are chasing our dreams, and we just want to lift ourselves from down there, so the spirit of playing the league game is different from this one. Some of the boys have not played and I made sure I field them today. Dreams are interested in the FA cup more than us, or let me say, they are defending champions. You see where we are, our attention is on the league”.

The former Legon Cities Coach who has won 2 games so far since joining the Kpando based team however believes, it is too early to say the club will escape relegation.

“It is too early to say that Lions is getting out of relegation. Getting away is not 2 matches, but getting to the end of the season. But we are making sure we fight to get out of where we are.” He added

Before signing Basir Hayford for his second stint, Kpando Heart of Lions were without a win after 13 matches and with 8 points at the bottom. Still bottom, they have now garnered 14 points and with another outstanding match, away to Medeama Sc to wrap up the first round on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Lions progressed to the Round of 32 stage after a 1-0 win against Akatsi All Stars at the Akatsico Park. They have however played all two Fa Cup matches, home away from home.
