Former Commissioner of the Ghana Police Service, Mr. George Tuffour, has picked nomination forms to contest for the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency in the Ashanti Region.
The constituency went agog on Thursday, December 21, 2023, as people from all walks of life, including delegates, followed him to pick up his forms at the party office in Afari.
The vociferous followers first took a walk through the principal streets of Toase and the constituency’s capital, Nkawie.
According to some delegates who spoke to Truenewsghana.com, they have already seen signs of progress in the constituency since Mr. Tuffour decided to contest the race some months ago, revealing the several assistances he had given to indigenes in the constituency.
They indicated that they see him as someone who can change the fortunes of the constituency, as they have lacked development for far too long despite their unmatched support for the party.
“He is indeed a game changer. Even before he entered the race, a number of people and schools had benefited from his assistance. He has facilitated jobs for several of our youth, and a lot of community problems are being fixed.
COP George Tuffuor last duty post was Director-General/Finance at the Police Headquarters, and retired from the Ghana Police Service in July 2021.
He has served in various capacities throughout the country including Regional Commander for Upper East, Northern, Volta and Tema.
On retirement, he worked briefly with National Security before going private and focusing on his business.
He is also contesting the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency where Emmanuel Agyei Ahwere who was recently chased out by constituents over failed promises is the MP.
The ruling The NPP is set to hold its primaries for constituencies where they have sitting MPs on January 27, 2024.
