Having had a wonderful 2022/23 season, Class one Referee Rustum Gameli will center the 2023/24 betPawa Premier league match day one tie between Real Tamale United (RTU) and Accra Hearts of Oak on Friday, September 15, 2023.
The match which is expected to see lots of actions, officially ushers football fans and all stakeholders of Ghana football into the new season and will be the SWAG Awardee’s 41st premier league match since 2019.
The Broadcast Journalist has never officiated a home match of Real Tamale United but was fourth last season when RTU defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko 2-1 on April 17, 2022, a Week 25 encounter, handled by Franklin Akumatey.
He has however centered 2 away matches of the Phobians, a 0-1 loss to defending champions Medeama on February 4, 2021 and a 1-1 draw with Accra Great Olympics on June 6, 2021, which were both LIVE.
While Hearts finished 12th last season with 46 points, RTU placed 11th, also with 46 points. Hearts have managed a 0-0 draw against RTU in their last 4 matches in the premier league, with the pride of the north doing a double of the Phobians last season.
The Ho based Referee, will be assisted on the lines by Eric Ndebugri and Ernest Akatey, while Foster Bastiours has been appointed to man the fourth official post. The LIVE match on Startimes, to kick off at 6pm, will have Mike Amedior as the Match Commissioner.
Last season, Rustum officiated the week one match at the Cape Coast Stadium on September 11, 2022, which saw Kotoku Royals beat Accra Lions by 1-0, his 27th Premier league match.
Rustum was involved in a total of 37 matches from the premier league to division 2 and centered 30 with 7 as fourth official.
While aiming for the FIFA badge, Rustum is motivated by #RusRefair and seeing the next appointment as the toughest appointment.
