Former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has asserted that Political divisions among Ghanaians are the main reason the county has not been able to win any Africa Cup of Nations trophy for the past 42 years.

Speaking from Yaounde, Cameroon where the 2021 AFCON draw took place, Gyan told Asempa FM that the Country must have a united front during tournaments

He noted that the focus on players bonuses is a major worry to the playing body and technical team of the Black Stars, noting that the focus should be on winning the trophy than their entitlements.

“I have never seen a country so focused on what players earn during the tournament than the trophy, usually when we set up to play an AFCON tournament, the whole country discuss the bonus of the players, rather than thinking of the trophy at stake.

“We are divided as a Nation, and it’s something that does not help the course of the Black Stars, the players get distracted with such thinking.”

Gyan was a special guest of honour during the CAF draw held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

Ghana have been drawn alongside Morocco, Comoros and Gabon.
