Real Tamale United’s promotion was done in a stale manner: tied on 65 points, they secured promotion over Bofoakwa Tano with a better head-to-head after drawing goalless with the ‘Odetola’ Boys in Sunyani and winning 2-0 in Tamale in the reverse fixture.

One of the oldest clubs in the country, RTU were relegated from the Ghana Premier League in April 2013 after losing 4-1 to New Edubiase United with seven matches to the end of the season. The Pride of the North ended the season without a win in 30 matches – five draws and 25 defeats.

Real Tamale reached the top flight in 1978 and finished 3rd on the league log and had since been a force to reckon with until 2013.

They took a big hit and were relegated from the Ghana Premier League in 8 years ago after losing 4-1 to New Edubiase United with seven matches to the end of the season.

However, the Northern side have shown resilience to bounce back this season and are this time likely to go up with more points than ever before.

And with Bibiani Gold Stars and Accra Lions FC already sealing their promotional slot in the GPL, Real Tamale United now join the league where they once belonged.
