Player development often opens doors to new opportunities beyond familiar grounds.
21-year-old Courage Gbeve started his football career at Kings Palace Fc, then Akosombo Krystal Palace Academy at the age of 14 years.
He was one of the 11 players (Awatsonya, Kabiru, Arthur, Seth, Divine, Essel, Ani, Annan [Gk], etc) who were promoted from the youth side to the senior team that played in the Division One league for the 2020/21 season, headed by Coach J.E Sarpong.
He contributed tremendously to the growth of the pride of akwamu lads with his favorite left back position. He played a huge role in the team’s 4th place in the 2022/23 season with 45 points, when Heart of Lions qualified to the Premier league.
Courage proved his versatility by excelling in multiple roles—center-back, defensive midfield, or attacking midfield—to the satisfaction of his coaches.
Gbeve bade goodbye to Kings Palace, after their 1-1 match day 11 encounter against Golden Kick at the Akotex Park on 29th December, 2024.
He signed a 2-year deal for Zone three leaders Hohoe United during the January transfer window on January 15, 2025. He played 34 minutes of their 4-1 thrashing of Kotoku Royals at home, after replacing Patrick Amatey.
From Akosombo, to Hohoe, Courage told TalksenseSports, “They welcomed me warmly and I am having a good time with the entire team. Going out of where I started playing football is a mixed feeling. My only challenge is getting used to the Astro turf, which I am picking up at a fast pace.”
The freekick expert Courage, scored a vital away goal for Hohoe United, to cancel Inter Allies’ lead (1-1), 5 minutes after replacing Daniel Amartey in the 72’.
His thunderous 25-yard free-kick was a spectacle, in the match day 14 game played at the University of Ghana, Legon Stadium on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Courage delivered a commanding performance as they edged past title contenders and former Premier League side Accra Great Olympics 1-0 on Match Day 15. Wearing the #35 shirted jersey, timely tackles and reading of the game prevented Oly from creating chances.
Hohoe United remain at the top of Zone 3 with 35 points. On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Hohoe United Fc will welcome Akatsi All Stars to the Hohoe Sports Stadium for match day 16.
