Hockey was celebrated, so was the late Ex President, John Fiifi Evans Atta Mills, as Atta Mills XI triumphed 4-3 against Seniors in a match at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Orgainsed by the J.E Atta-Mills Memorial Heritage and the Veterans Hockey Club, Accra, the 13th Annual Commemorative Hockey Tournament, saw 4 other matches played to honor the Late President, who ensured the Hockey Stadium was constructed.

With many speeches on one of Ghana’s Iconic President; Atta Mills in association to Hockey in the past, National U-21 Boys cruised to a 3-2 victory over Ark Academy Men, before Einstein secured a 3-1 win over University of Ghana.

Testing their pulse in preparation for national duty, the National U-21 Girls lost 5-1 to Police Ladies team before the final match saw Financial Services, thrashing the Security Services by 5-1.

The J.E Atta-Mills Memorial Heritage team presented awards to the Greater Accra Hockey Association and winners with plaques and cash prizes to motivate them in their pursuit of excellence in the game.

Present at the eventful celebration of Life and Hockey, were Samuel Atta-Mills (Younger brother of the late Atta Mills) Dr Benjamin Asante, President of the Ghana Hockey Association; Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority; Edward Awuah Nyamekye, former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association; Akrofi Mantey, a former teammate of the late president, Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, among others.

Hockey, is one of the most loved sports in Ghana and was a sport that the Late Ex President played and loved.
May His Soul continue to rest in Perfect Peace and May Ghana become the Ghana Late Atta Mills wanted it to be.

The Greater Accra Sapholda Hockey League resumes on Saturday, August 2, 2025 with the Men and Ladies matches.
