Ghana’s senior national female hockey team, the Female Black Sticks, clinched silver at the 9th Women’s Hockey Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) held in Egypt from October 11–19, 2025.
The spirited Ghanaian ladies showcased skill, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament, advancing to the final after a commanding 5–2 victory over Kenya.

In the grand finale, they came up against defending champions South Africa, who proved clinical with a 4–0 win, leaving Ghana to settle for the silver medal.
The Black Sticks began their campaign in style with an 8–1 thrashing of host nation Egypt in the opening fixture, followed by a 5–1 win over Nigeria. Their only group stage setback came in a narrow 3–2 loss to South Africa before they wrapped up the round-robin stage with another 5–2 win against Kenya.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s men’s national team, participating in the 12th Edition of the Men’s Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, fell short of the medal zone. They suffered an opening 2–1 loss to Nigeria, recovered with a 5–0 win over Zambia, and added a 4–2 victory over Kenya. However, heavy defeats to South Africa (11–3) and Egypt (7–3) saw them finish 5th with 4 points.

The ladies’ stellar showing was capped with two individual awards —
🏆 Dorothy Ngissah (Extinguishers Club) was named Best Goalkeeper, while
🏅 Mavis Berko Boatemaa (GRA Ladies) claimed the Top Scorer award with 6 goals.

The team returned home on Monday, October 20, 2025, to warm reception and national pride.
The consistent competition in the Sapholda Hockey League in Accra has played a crucial role in preparing these players for such continental assignments — a testament to Ghana’s growing presence and potential in African hockey.
