He is a perfect all-rounder and paid his dues in Ghana’s Men’s National team, rising from the U-19 team in 2002 through to the Senior Men’s Team.
Mark Bawa, an ex-national player, has been appointed Head Coach of the Seychelles Senior Men’s Cricket team by the Seychelles Cricket Association. Effective February 21, till March ending, 2026, Mark is expected to guide the team to qualify for the next stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier B in Ghana.
Mark, who has since been in Seychelles, training with the National team, will return to Ghana to battle for the single round robin qualifiers, facing the likes of host nation Ghana, Eswatini, Tanzania, St. Helena and Malawi from March 22, to 30, 2026.
Seychelles will begin their campaign on match day 1 on Tuesday, March 24, against host nation Ghana, before playing as guests to St. Helena on Wednesday. On Friday and Saturday, they will host Tanzania and Malawi, and finally wrap it all up on Sunday against Eswatini.
Mark, has rich experience in batting, bowling, fielding, wicket keeping and has groomed a lot of young lads, who have since also been in the national teams.
Bawa, a twin of Matthew, expects to make an impact with the Seychelles team, as his contract could be extended.
“I hope to make a great impact on the team, and the focus is not just for the qualifiers in Ghana but beyond. I am happy to be identified for a task like this, and I am ready for it.”
Mark, apart from coaching at Nsromma Cricket Academy in Ghana, played for Evolve Cricket Club in the recently ended Ghana Cricket Association Division One league.
Seychelles has seen an upsurge in the game from expats coming in, as the nation became Associate members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2017, from being an affiliate member in 2011.
In the last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B, hosted by Kenya in 2024, Seychelles finished 5th, losing to champions Zimbabwe, runners-up, Kenya, Mozambique, and Rwanda, beating bottom-place Gambia.
Two teams will qualify from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier B, for the regional finals, joining Namibia, and two each from Qualifier A and C.
