The Greater Accra Sapholda Hockey League week 9 saw great Ladies matches, with Legonknights picking their first point against Extinguishers in their opening match on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Extinguishers, who have strived for 2 stalemates already; first against Army and then Reformers, were hopeful of their first 3 points against Legonknights who have lost all 4 matches.

Legonknights on the other hand with an improvement after every defeat got their noses in front through a field goal scored by Esther Safoah, 6 minutes into the second quarter. Legonknights held on to their solitary lead till the last quarter.

Racheal Bamfo was the savior again for her side, as she scored her 3rd goal of the season to secure their 3rd draw with a field goal on the 49’. The 1-1 draw means Extinguishers remain top of the bottom with 3 points and Legonknights carry all 5 other Clubs, with just a point after 5 matches.

However, leaders GRA Ladies maintained their lead, recording 5 wins out of 5 matches to wrap up their first round.
A slim 1-0 win against Reformers was enough to seal their 15 accrued points at the summit of the Women League Table, heading into the second round. Ernestina Coffie was gifted a goal in the 4th minute with a defensive blunder. Reformers with captain Benedicta Adjei at the back, kept things tight for GRA, who created many scoring opportunities but could not hit the back of the net again.

GRA has scored 17 goals in total and conceded just 2 in all 5 matches.
GRA is closely followed by nemesis Army Ladies, who finished 2nd with 10 points after beating Police by 2-1 in the final game of the day.
Army was eager and scored their first goal on the 4th minute via a penalty corner by Asana Gbati. 3 minutes into the second quarter, Charity Akoto gave her side a cushion with a field goal but before that quarter will end, Police Ladies pull one back through Doreen Owusu.
The last 2 quarters of the game saw missed chances but beautiful display of hockey with the sticks.
It will be an interesting second round of the league due to how teams like Extinguishers, Legonknights and Reformers have improved.
The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium is breeding great Hockey talents that must be monitored for explosions in the national teams.
