Tamil Pasanga Cricket Club clinch Kumasi Premier League season 4 trophy after defeating Punjab Panthers

Tamil Pasanga lifted the giant trophy of the 4th edition of the Kumasi Premier league, held at the Hill top School on Sunday, July 6, 2025 after defeating Punjab Panthers in a grueling final of the 5-over modified Cricket.

It was a day of reuniting in the spirit of the gentlemen game as the first five matches saw the likes of Indian Strikers, Tamil Pasanga, Knight Riders, Punjab Panthers and Mosam Masters making it to the quarter final stages with victories over Patels, Accra Titans, AFG Tigers, Bharat Warriors and Jai Ambe respectively.

Sponsored by Jaykay Paper and SMJ Restaurant, the likes of Bharat Warriors and Accra Titans came back stronger in the last 8, when they beat Jai Ambe and AFG Tigers in the pre-quarter final matches. Punjab Panthers had then booked their semi final berth, with an 8-wickets win over Patels after 42/4 and 22/5.

Tamil Pasanga in the second quarter final went harder on Indian Strikers, with a 9 wickets victory after 23/5 and 27/0 in 1.5 overs. Some excellent display took Mosam Master into the last 4 with a 6-wickets win over Knight Riders. It was tight in both innings, as Mosam needed 40/3 in 4.4 overs to outscore the Riders 39/5.

With Indian Strikers Ghana and Jupiter Industries Limited supporting the one-day event, Accra Titans cruised to the semis with a demolition of Bharat Warriors in the last quarter final. The defending champions scored 55/5 and limited Bharat to 44/0 to win by 9 runs.

In the semis, Madhu stood strong for Tamil Pasanga, who disciplined Mosam Masters with a 22 runs victory. They scored 57/3 in the first innings to give the Masters a tall order to climb. Tried as Mosam Master could, their drives could not reach the boundaries for the maximum, limiting them to 35/5.

Accra Titans, from losing the first game to the Semis knew they had 1 more win to get to the finals. Punjab Panthers took the game to them and with the noisy fans, won by 25 runs. Punjab scored 42/5 17/7 in 4.2 overs.

Before the final game and because there was a trophy for 2nd runner up, Accra Titans beat Mosam Master to lift it high and proud. Mosam managed 28/3, while chasing 45/3 score by Accra Titans.

Tamil Pasanga made the final so easy for themselves with the likes of Rahul, Sachin, Venki, Madhu, Ram Lenin, Mankata et al exhibiting great bowling, fielding and batting acrobatics.

There were more restrictions, as the 52/4 score by Tamil Pasanga was too high for Punjab Panthers, who could only score 25/4 and Tamil winning by 27 runs.

While the Panthers received a trophy and cash Prize of GH₵5,100.00, Tamil Pasanga walked away with a giant trophy and a cash prize of GH₵8,500.00.

With every player of the match receiving quality brand wrist watches, Raman Madhu won the Best Batter accolade with a total of 88 runs from 4 innings, a strike rate of 183.33 and average of 29.33.

Best bowler and also went to Sukh Sanghu of Tamil Pasanga, who took 6 wickets from 4 innings and had 16.1 points, ahead of team mate Madhu with 10.73 points. It was all Tamil Pasanga, as Rahul Cherupoika was adjudged the Best fielder with 5 dismissals and 4 catches.

A wonderful 5-over modified cricket tournament it has been with the organisers, Kapil Kaka, Sunil Joshi, Devendra Sain, and Yashpal Signh promising a bigger and better Season 5.
