Gujarat Tridents Legends Clinch Maiden Masters Cup 40+ Cricket Trophy with Dominant Win Over Tema Royals

Gujurat Tridents Cricket Club made headlines once again in the modified Cricket scene, as their legends lifted the maiden 40+ non active 5-over Cricket tournament at the Dzorwulu Astro Turf on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

The two-week championship which began on Sunday, August 3, was sponsored by Fly Dreams Travels and organised by the SWAR Entertainment in association with Indians in Ghana, while Cravings were Food Partners.

The fierce Semi finals

Gujurat Tridents (GT) Legends exhibited great cricket skills, not just in the finals against Tema Royals but also in the semis against rivals Beyond Borders Cricket Club.

With straight semi-finals after a single round robin in the 2 groups of 5 and 4, Gujurat Tridents Legends achieved a target of 42/3 in 4.5 overs to beat Beyond Borders by 4 wickets. Beyond with lots of cheers and support scored 41/5 in the first innings and were sure of restricting GT Legends but fell behind with 2 balls and a run to prevent, as GT cruised to the final.

Co-Sponsors of the ever-exciting 40+ non-active 5-over modified cricket include Kodak Paints, Alma Medical Laboratory Master Cut, The Honest Man Premium Malt Whisky and blue RR Gh Ltd.

The other semis saw Tema Royals shatter the enthusiasm of The Classic Strikers’ (TCS) dreams of a final berth with a 23 runs victory. The Royals scored 43/4 in the first innings and with great bowling from JP Sharma, Sunil Kumar, and Vinoy Kandoth Chalil, The Classic Strikers managed 20/7 in 4.4 overs.

The Surprising score in the finals

It was a final that no one saw as low as 20 runs being scored. But GT Legends made it possible; restricting tough hitters Tema Royals to 20 runs for 5 wickets. While managing just 2 runs in the first over, JP Sharma was stumped in the 1.1 over, after Dilip Chandwani’s delivery. The openers were gone after 8 deliveries, while Tema Royals still had 2 runs and at the end of the second over.

Zulfikar Haider picked up the pieces for Tema Royals with a boundary 6 in the 3rd over but his hit for the second was caught by Deepu Thadani.

The second innings saw GT receive equal treatment by Tema Royals from the bowling of Meesam Siddiqui, keeping the former at 2 runs after 1 over. T tried to keep it simple, while some extras pushed their score up. Just a boundary 4 runs from the bats of Anurag Tripathi in the 3rd over and GT scored 21/2 in 4.4 overs, to win by 5 wickets.

Individual Awards and Prizes

While all Man of the match players received Gift hampers from Honest Man and mini trophy, individual accolades for the entire tournament received Mini trophy, gift vouchers and Eskay appliances.

Khurrum Malik of GT Legends was adjudged the Best Batter, while Bhupinder Singh, also of GT legends walked away with the Best Bowler accolade. It was a triple individual award for GT, as the Best Fielder also went to Navneet Pandey.

Ultimate Stars XI player, Prajeesh won the Most Valuable Player accolade, whereas Minoo of Gladiators was given the accolade for being the oldest player in the tournament (60 years).

While Tema royals received a trophy too plus GH₵4,000.00 cash prize and gift vouchers from Masters Cut, Gujurat Tridents Legends lifted the Giant trophy and walked home with a whooping GH₵8,000.00.

Other teams that participated in the Masters Cup include Ultimate Stars, Blue Diamond and Gladiator, in Group A, while Legend Tennis 11 and Back Benchers complete Group B.

The Dominance of Gujurat Tridents

The Club GT, which is gradually becoming a thorn in the flesh of other Cricket Club in modified cricket, with Bharat Vasu as the CEO saw their younger team lift the World Ocean Day trophy also at the Dzorwulu Astro Turf in June.

GT were also finalists of the Ghana Premier Cup, organised by Champions United in July and were joint champions of the Gold Coast Championship season 2, organised by Defenders Cricket Club in May, 2025.
