The 1999 batch of K.O Methodist Junior High School ‘A’ in Kumasi has donated sports outfits to the school to enhance its sporting activities.

The items presented at a brief ceremony held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the school’s premises include sets of jerseys, socks, training kits, footballs, and volleyballs. Other items were sets of stockings, whistles, and a stopwatch.

Members of the group’s executives who graced the colourful occasion were Mr. Eric Bimpong, the Chairman, Mr. Mykael Ackah-Menlah (Sir Biggie), the Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Martha Opoku, the Secretary, and Treasurer Mrs. Doris Frimpong. Others present were Bro. Moses, the group’s Organizer, and Mr. Tweneboa Kodua, the Porter.

Mr. Robert Amponsah, who was appointed to lead the project, speaking on behalf of the group, expressed hope that the donation would boost the morale of the school’s football and other teams in future sports competitions. He noted that the school has produced numerous human resources contributing significantly to the development of Ghana in various sectors, and that the students should be motivated by this to take their studies seriously.

He opined that the gesture was their contribution towards the school that made them who they are now and thought it was time to show appreciation.

He added that it was a swift response to an appeal made by the authorities to the old students for support to improve various departments of the school aimed at enhancing students’ performance as a whole.

“We decided to extend this gesture to our school as a way of saying thank you. We’ve seen that the school lacks a lot of development. I urge other groups to emulate what my friends and I have done today.

“We want to advise the students to study hard. Several people who completed their studies here years ago are doing well for Ghana, and I urge you to get inspired by that.”

Mr. Togbe George and Mrs. Sabina Serwaa, who are on the Patrons and Patronesses board of the group, were also in attendance. Other dignitaries included the headmistress of the school, Madam Esther Badu, and the entire staff of the school.

Madam Esther Badu, who received the items on behalf of the school community, thanked the group for the gesture and gave assurance that the items would be used for their intended purpose. She was optimistic that the items would spur the school on to annex more laurels in the next inter-schools games.

She took the opportunity to appeal to other old students of K.O Methodist Junior High School ‘A’ to emulate the example and urged public and private enterprises, including financial institutions, to extend their social responsibilities to the school as it is in a deplorable state.

“The items received from the 1999 year group will enhance our sporting activities. We thank them very much as these items have come at the right time.

“I would like to plead with the other groups to do the same as the school is in a bad state. We need to paint the buildings since it’s been years since they were painted. The school also lacks adequate desks for the students and almost all the ceilings are leaking. The school also lacks computers to aid our ICT lessons, which makes teaching and learning easier.”

K.O Methodist Junior High School ‘A’ has been in existence for the past 37 years.
