An Alumnus of Wesley College of Education, Mr. Prosper Tachie Esq. has been elected as the new national President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), defeating incumbent Rev. Isaac Owusu in a keenly contested election held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Accra.

The much-anticipated election was held during GNAT’s 7th Quadrennial and 54th National Delegates Conference at the UPSA’s Ohene Konadu Auditorium, where teacher representatives from across the country gathered to elect new national executives.

Mr. Tachie secured 436 votes of the total valid ballots cast, representing 61.75 per cent, while Rev. Isaac Owusu bagged 266 votes, also representing 37.78 per cent. The third contender, Mr. Charles K. Amponsah, managed a paltry 2 votes, amounting to 0.28 per cent. Out of a total of 706 votes cast, only two were declared rejected.

Tachie’s landslide victory is not a fluke, as he had worked tirelessly and indications were clear following the contest he gave in the previous elections.

It would be recalled that the incumbent, Rev. Isaac Owusu, emerged winner of the GNAT elections held during the 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in January 2022.

Prior to that national election, Mr. Tachie had been elected the Ashanti Regional Chairman of GNAT on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, where he polled 310 votes representing 51.32%, to beat his only contender, Mr. Owusu Kwabena Nketia, who had 294 votes representing 48.68%.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Mr. Tachie retained his position as Chairman of the Ashanti Regional branch of GNAT following a resounding endorsement in an election held at the Christian Village in Santasi, Kumasi.

The former Wesley College of Education trainee, who ran unopposed, received 627 YES votes against 14 NO votes, representing 97.82% of the total valid votes cast.
